Notes about Hendrik Jan Brusse

According to the "Amoral of Muschart" Hendrik Jan Brusse used the following coat of Arms:
" Hendrick Jan Brusse Judicator and Receiver of the Manor Ligtenberg, used a Divided Shield, the left side to be of Silver, charged with a Climbing Bear of Sable, the right side (the arms of his wife Van Tongeren) to be of Sable, charged with two horizontal embattled Bars of Silver"
The above coat of arms was used as a seal on various judgements which are still preserved in the judicial records of Zutphen in Gelderland.

The first Protestant Church in the small village of Varsseveld was built around 1600. A severe wind storm badly damaged this structure in 1705. A second church was build, from local stones and bricks. This church was completely destroyed by fire in 1723. Unfortunately, this fire also destroyed the Church Register in which birth, marriage and death dates and events were recorded.
The Church was rebuilt and consecrated in 1730 (It still stands today, and is in fairly good condition). A new church register was started in 1730. The first entry in this register are the names off all church members in 1730, among them we found Elisabeth Louisa van Tongeren en her children from her first marriage to Hendrik Jan Brusse..

Some information was found in the judicial records and land titles.
According to the judicial records and land titles of the Duchy of Geulders (later Gelderland) and the Manor Wisch:
1710 - Hendrik Jan Brusse is appointed as assistant to his father the "Receiver of the Manor Wisch", due to poor health of his father.
1714 - Hendrik Jan Brusse married to Elisabeth Louisa van Tongeren, only heir to her father Johann van Tongeren, instructed their uncle Dirk Bouwman, living in The Hague to sell two bonds at the General Office in The Hague.
1716 - Hendrik Jan Brusse is appointed "Receiver of the Manor Wisch".
1719 - Hendrik Jan Brusse is registered as co-owner, together with Jan Becking, of one quarter of the property known as "The Mellinck" near Varsseveld.
1723 - Hendrik Jan Brusse is appointed "Judge of the Manor Ligtenberg" and representative of Lady Johanna Henrietta Baroness van Keppel.
1726 - Elisabeth Louisa van Tongeren is mentioned as widow of Hendrik Jan Brusse on 27-Feb-1726. Hendrik Jan died suddenly (cause of death is not known) in February 1726. His widow was forced to sell the estate "The Mellink" in 1727. His youngest son Louis was only 4 years old at the time of his father's death. Elisabeth Louise van Tongeren remarried in 1730 to Anthonie Moll, who became step-father to the Brusse Children.Source 1
