IN MEMORIAM JAAP ZEGERS VEECKENS

Eén van de oprichters van de Nederlands Vereniging van Toerzeilers, zestien jaar

lang bestuurslid, steeds als penningmeester, maar ook een tijd als waarnemend

secretaris.

Een man met duidelijke inzichten over de NVvT.

Jaap was altijd en overal aanwezig, hield steeds een oogje in het zeil en stond

klaar om bij te springen. Met zijn inzet en werklust groeide de vereniging van

de zeven grondleggers naar duizenden leden.

73 Jaar oud stapte hij nog vitaal en enthousiast aan boord van de ‘Quite So’ voor

de Lowestoft-rally. Terwijl andere opvarenden aan Neptunus offerden, zat Jaap

smakelijk een saucijzenbroodje te eten en genoot van Bft. 6.

Jaap was een markant figuur in de NVvT en dat niet alleen door gestalte en stem.

Hij was bekend bij héél veel leden. En veel leden weten nu nog aardige anekdotes

over hem te vertellen. Hem aanduiden met JZV was voldoende.

In 1986 benoemde de Algemene Ledenvergadering hem tot erelid. En dat was

zeer terecht.

Op 10 september j.l. overleed Jaap Zegers Veeckens. Hij werd bijna 97 jaar oud.

Ons rest nu slechts dank, en de herinnering aan hem.
