Notes about Lenaert Luls

Aanvulling van Paul C. Smis.
In juli 1617 moet er zich een ramp hebben voltrokken aan de familie Luls-van Gansenpoel, die woonde op de hoek van het Schoutensteegje.
op de 19e wordt Lenaert Luls begraven;
ook op de 19e wordt Catharina Luls begraven, zijn dochtertje;
op de 21e wordt Susanna Luls begraven;
ook op de 21e wordt Magdalena van Gansenpoel, zijn echtgenote, begraven.

Dit kan niet anders dan een besmettelijke ziekte of een groot ongeluk geweest zijn. Zoals blijkt uit het boek De gave Gods, van Noordegraaf en Valk, moeten we hier denken aan de pest. Op pagina 101 valt te lezen:

[...] in de eerste zes maanden van 1617 werden in Amsterdam op het Karthuizerskerkhof respectievelijk 19, 15, 22, 26, en 27 doden begraven; in september en oktober, met de pest op haar hoogtepunt, 590 en 543 *29. [...]
