Later kocht hij een pand in de Papensteeg waar hij zijn zilversmederijmee begon.
Gerrit was ‚‚n van de oprichters van het gilde zilversmeden te Meppel in1765. Het meester teken van Gerrit was "GB" ter weerszijden van eenboompje.
Na zijn overlijden werd het pand verkocht voor fl.2902.00
