Op 23 juli 1885 reisde Alwine Drege, terug naar Afrika via Southampton, einddoel Algoa Bay, met het engelse stoomschip "Roman" onder kapt. Smyth.
Zij reisde met haar 3 dochters Louise (3), Ida (2), Gladys (1) en een hulp, Clara Dehnert. Zij waren op bezoek geweest bij haar moeder die in 1880 verhuisd was van Bremen naar Braunschweig (vlak bij haar geboorteplaats Wolfenbüttel).
Op 28 mei 1892 reisde zij weer terug naar Algoa Bay, vanuit Hamburg via Southampton, met de dochters Louise (10), Ida (8), Gladys (7) op het engelse schip de "Anglian", wederom onder kapt. Smyth.
Op 28 maart 1895 liet haar 69-jarige moeder zich uitschrijven uit Braunschweig met als doel Port Elizabeth, Zuid Afrika. Zij reisde vervolgens af op 30 maart met het stoomschip "Pretoria", ook nu weer onder kapt. Smyth.
