De Balade betreffende de Afgrijselijke Kindermoord.

Holland dierbaar land der vad'ren,
Arm zijt gij aan zonneschijn.
Rijk doch evenwel aan moorden,
't Doet elk Nederlander pijn.
Als hij hoort van kindermoorden,
Een kindermoord is er geschiedt.
'T nieuws verspreid zich aller oorden,
Een drama is er weer geschied.

In 't Gelderse Beek daar is gevonden,
In een houtmijt wreed vermoord.
Gewurg en met vele wonden,
Een meisje is 't niet ongehoord.
Wie, ja wie is hier de dader,
Wie deez'wrede onverlaat.
Hoort naar het lied, misschien de vader,
Is de moordnaar in deez' daad.

Jacht dra met politiehonden,
Jacht echter zonder succes.
Daar weerklinkt uit alle monden,
Onder veel geschil, gekles.
Een dame sprak en deed aanwijzing,
Een man met smekend kind gezien.
Die deez' misdaad vol afgrijzing,
Heeft volbracht, voltooid misschien.

Ik ben, sprak deze man, onschuldig,
Dronken was ik om 4 uur.
"t Onderzoek geleid geduldig,
Zoo verging minuut en uur.
Daar verschenen een paar mannen,
"t Waren Stokkums kasteleinen.
Alibi en geen moordplannen,
Spraken zei zonder geveins.

Plots verspreid zich in 't ronde,
Vader en moeder van het kind.
Door politie onomwonden,
Naar 's Heerenberg gebracht gezwind.
Verdenking rust nu op de vader,
De vader van 't vermoorde kind.
Groote God Gij altegader,
Is 't mogelijk men zo'n vader vindt.

Dikwijls spreekt men van miraaklen,
Of van wonderen die geschiën.
Menschen die slechts wat opraaklen,
Over dingen ongezien.
God Almachtig van hierboven,
Zal wonder of mirakel doen.
Zal den dader zelf aanwijzen,
En hem laten boete doen.
