De piloot dacht dat hij zich boven het Duitse eiland Borkum bevond. Door het slechte zicht zag hij niet dat hij daarentegen boven Schiermonnikoog vloog. Er vielen vijf doden. Zeven andere personen werden gewond onder het puin vandaan gehaald.
