  Prof. dr. Samuel Muller, geboren te Krefeld op 18 januari 1785, prof., dr. litt. h.c., dr. theol. h.c., predikant doopsgezinde gemeente te Zutphen (1806), Zaandam Oostzijde (1809), Amsterdam (1814), hoogleraar aan het Doopsgezind Seminarie te Amsterdam (1817-1856), overleden te Amsterdam op 25 februari 1875, zoon van Christian Müller, kleermaker te Krefeld, en Elisabeth Schmidt.
  
  Samuel Muller werd geboren te Krefeld op 18-1-1785 en overleed te Amsterdam op 25-2-1875. Hij was een zoon van Christiaan Müller, kleermaker, en Elisabeth Schmidt. Op negenjarige leeftijd werd hij al wees. Hij studeerde theologie aan het Doopsgezind Seminarie te Amsterdam van 1801 tot 1806. Daarna was hij doopsgezind predikant te Zutphen vanaf 1806, Zaandam-Oost vanaf 1809, Verenigde Doopsgezinde gemeente Amsterdam vanaf 1814. Hij was hoogleraar aan het Doopsgezind Seminarie vanaf 1827 tot 1856 (dogmatiek, praktische theologie, mennonitica). Hij trouwde op 15 april 1812 met Femina Geertruida Mabé (1784-1870).

  Samuel Muller (1785-1875), a Dutch Mennonite theologian, was born in Krefeld, Germany, on 18 January 1785. He was a son of Christian Muller and Elisabeth Schmidt. His mother died when Samuel was only six years old, his father when he was nine. In Krefeld he spent a "youth without joy," went to Amsterdam in 1801 to study theology at the Mennonite Seminary under Gerrit Hesselink and ancient languages at the Athenaeum under van Lennep. The regular services of the Amsterdam Mennonites did not satisfy him. "His heart had needs which could not be filled by the offerings of the preachers" (Sepp). He was appointed ministerial candidate and served at Zutphen. On 15 April 1812 Muller married Femina Geertruida Mabé, a widow from Haarlem. She died in 1870, leaving eight children. Muller's descendants include a number of important scholars.
