Cornelis Wageveld was marinier 2e klasse bij de Koninklijke Marine. Hij komt als marinier in handen van de Japanners en wordt op 15 september 1944 vanaf Tandjong Priok  vervoerd met bestemming Padang met het Japanse schip Junyo Maru. Het schip wordt op 18 september 1944 in de Indische Oceaan ter hoogte van Moko-Moko door twee torpedo's van de Britse onderzeeboot HMS Tradewind getroffen. De meeste opvarenden kwamen om. Cornelis Wageveld is als vermist opgegeven.
