Note dans le Livre des Feudataires de Jean III duc de Brabant par Galelsoot: le père serait Jean II.
Bulkens (t. I", p. 334) compte au nombre des enfants naturels du duc Jean Ier Jeannekin ou Hannekin, surnommé de Malines, qui doit être le même que celui cité ici dans le texte. Il se fonde pour établir cette parenté sur des lettres du duc Jean II de l'an 1310, où ce prince intitule ledit Jennekin « son frère ». Or j'ai trouvé des lettres patentes du 6 novembre 1352 par lesquelles le duc Jean III crée Gérard de Malines woutmaittre de Brabant. Le duc y appelle le père de Gérard « son frère naturel » ( Gheert van Mechele wijlen was sone Jans van Mechele, ous natuerlicken brueder.) A ce compte-là, Jean de Malines n'aurait pas eu pour père Jean Ier, mais Jean II. Ces lettres patentes sont transcrites an Spechtboek, fol. 279 r", et ctlées aux registres de la chambre des comptes;"
