Het straatje tussen de huidige Prinsegracht en het Westeinde heette oorspronkelijk Warmoesstraat. Halverwege de zeventiende eeuw noemden de bewoners de straat echter steeds meer naar de herberg die zich in de straat bevond, De Drie Boeren.
De omgeving van het Westeinde werd eeuwenlang door katholieke Hagenaars bewoond.

Slop van de Drie Boeren
In de volgende eeuwen werd de straat afwisselend Slop van de drie boeren en Warmoesstraat genoemd. Zowel in de spreektaal als in de officiële stukken.
De meeste Hagenaars wilden echter het liefst niet in een slop of steeg wonen. Een naamswijziging kon de status van het slop aanzienlijk vergroten. Na lang aandringen van de bewoners werd daarom in 1882 de naam definitief veranderd in Warmoezierstraat.

Weeshuis
Begin 18e eeuw wilden katholieke Hagenaars een weeshuis stichten. Om geen aanstoot te geven aan de gereformeerde gemeente, werd in 1731 gekozen voor het Slop van de Drie Boeren dat op een stille, afgelegen plaats lag.
Een door mr. Bonifacius van der Haer gebouwd huis werd omgebouwd tot 'wees- en armhuis'. Dit weeshuis bevond zich recht tegenover de blinde muur van het Hofje van Nieuwkoop. Aan de achterkant keek het weeshuis uit op bleekvelden en tuinderijen (nu Westeinde ziekenhuis) tot aan de Lijnbaan.
Honderd jaar later, in 1836, ontving het weeshuis een schenking van 100.000 gulden van de Heeren van Brederode. Met dit geld werd een kapel gebouwd en het gebouw vergroot.

Het weeshuis verloor gedeeltelijk zijn functie toen in 1878 het later beruchte Huize Groenestein aan de Loosduinseweg werd geopend. Het gebouw in de Warmoezierstraat werd pas in 1975 afgebroken.
