Karel Knippenberg was de zoon van Hubertus Knippenberg uit Blerick en Maria Susanna Helena Jurcka uit Nijmegen. Ze trouwden in augustus 1892 in Nijmegen en bleven er wonen tot hun dood in resp. 1946 en 1951. Hun zoon Karel, geboren in 1894 in Nijmegen, trouwde met Marie Görka en verhuisde waarschijnlijk naar Düsseldorf. Of dat in of voor de oorlog gebeurde is niet duidelijk. Evenmin of hij wel of niet dwangarbeider was. Zijn Sterbeurkunde(Düsseldorf-Nord 29 okt.45) geeft als doodsoorzaak: "Nackenkarbunkel, Sepsis, Kreislaufschwäche". Zijn overlijden is in Nijmegen ingeschreven, en hij ligt op het oorlogskerkhof in Düsseldorf-Nord temidden van 29 Nederlanders, voornamelijk dwangarbeiders.
