Notes about Wessel "Bobby" Babtist

Wessel is op 8 maart 1942 in Bandoeng door de Japanners krijgsgevangen gemaakt in Bandoeng. Kort na zijn gevangenschap heeft zijn zoon Piet hem nog bezocht. Wessel was toen 1.81 meter lang en woog 110 kg. Voor de Japanners moest hij aan de Pakanbaroe-spoorweg (Sumatra, Indonesië) werken. Hij is daar op 20 september 1944 ziek geworden en uiteindelijk op 8 juli 1945 om 19:00 uur overleden aan septicemia (bloedvergiftiging), waarschijnlijk het gevolg van uitputting. Bij zijn overlijden woog Wessel nog slechts 55 kg. Oorspronkelijk is Wessel begraven bij "De Sumatra Spoorweg", kamp 2, grafnummer 279. Later is hij herbegraven op het Ereveld Leuwigajah te Cimahi bij Bandung op Java, vak IV grafnummer 255.
