Na te zijn gepromoveerd op een gyneacologisch onderwerp wordt hij huisarts.

1921-1924 Huisarts te Hoedekenskerke, Zuid Beveland, (in Huize Boerhaave)

In 1924 verhuist hij naar Boekelo om dichter bij zijn ouders te zijn die in 1921 al naar Twente verhuisden. Waarschijnlijk omdat zijn vader gezondheidsproblemen kreeg. Daartoe solliciteert hij naar de nieuwe functie van bedrijfsarts bij de Boekelose Stoomblekerij.

Op 1 oktober 1924 opent hij zijn huisartspraktiijk te Boekelo.

augustus 1927: gezamenlijke zeilvakantie op een platbodem in Friesland: Lies Koek-van Heek, Kees Koek, Hendrik ter kuile en Heb Koek.

Weliswaar in de overtuiging, dat veel ons boven het hoofd kan hangen, maar toch in de vaste overtuiging, dat, wat er ook komt, dit niet afhankelijk is van een noodlot of een toeval. ·ÄúNiet en nooit bang zijn·Äù was het thema van de nieuwjaars-toespraak aan tafel voor de kinderen.·Äô

24 januari 1936 - dagboekaantekening: ဘIn geen weken to bijhouden van dit dagboek tijd gehad. De eerste maanden van het jaar zijn voor huisartsen de zwaarste. Vooral de ernstige patiënten kosten veel hoofdbreken, zorg en tijd. Zonder arbeid is het leven echter niet de moeite waard.မ

De Gorcumer, 29 juni 1938: ·Äò DE ONBEWAAKTE OVERWEGEN. Vrachtauto door trein gegrepen.
Gistermorgen omstreeks elf uur is op de onbewaakte overweg nabij de zoutindustrie te Boekelo een truck met oplegger door een goederentrein gegrepen. De locomotief botste ter hoogte van de achterwielen tegen de oplegger, waardoor deze een slag maakte en ook de truck tegen de trein kwam.
De chauffeur, Plokhaar, in dienst van de Kon. Ned. Zoutindustrie, werd uit de cabine geslingerd. Dr. Koek, uit Boekelo, verleende hem de eerste hulp. De man, die over inwendige pijnen klaagde, is naar het ziekenhuis te Hengelo overgebracht. De auto werd ernstig beschadigd. De locomotief en de eerste wagon werden licht beschadigd.

Op 23 juni 1939 wordt hij ·Äòs ochtends bij het ontbijt, temidden van zijn gezin, getroffen door een hersenbloeding. Twee dagen later overlijdt hij aan de gevolgen hiervan.
