Notes about Remmert Leendertsz Kunst

Hij is afkomstig van Den Hoorn.
Remmert is loods en van 1710-1725 overman van de loodsen. Zijn vele mannelijke nakomelingen zijn vrijwel allemaal loods. Na de opening van het Noordhollands Kanaal trekken de meesten van hen naar den Helder, zodat de naam in de 20e eeuw op Texel is uitgestorven. Via de vrouwelijke lijn stamt echter bijna de hele hervormde bevolking van Den Hoorn van Remmert af.
Een overman van de loodsen had o.a. tot taak boeten uit te schrijven aan loodsen die zich niet aan de regels hielden. Loodsen waren aan diverse regels gebonden. Zo mocht een loods niet jonger zijn dan 25 jaar en niet ouder dan 60. Ook was men verplicht het loodsteken bij zich te dragen tijdens het loodsenwerk.
Een andere taak was het beheer van de “beurs” of “bos”: een deel van het loodsgeld ging hier in en was bestemd voor o.a. ondersteuning van weduwen en wezen van loodsen of voor loodsen die hun werk niet meer konden uitvoeren.
Jaarlijks moest de overman verantwoording afleggen aan de burgemeester of schout.
De loodsgaljoten werden onder toezicht van de overman onderhouden. De overman stond weer onder toezicht van een commissaris.
