Ommelander Geslachten I-III - pagina 21 vermeldt:
De bisschoppelijke volkeren van Keulen en Munster vielen in de provincie, spookten in de Ommelanden rond en belegerden de stad. Te Wirdum werden zij met succes bestreden door Claes Jans Knol, eigenerfde boer op de kloosterboerderij ’Ter Borgh’ aldaar. Hij stierf kort daarna op 3 september 1672. De heer Steenhuis Geertsema, de latere eigenaar van ’Ter Borgh’, bezat een manuscript, een ’Rouwbeklagt’ op dat overlijden, waarin bovengenoemd feit aldus wordt vermeld:

Helaas, nu is hij dood; ik smelt bijna van spijt.
Zijn zoontjes alle vier mogen met regt wel klagen
Omdat haar vader stierf in deez’bedroefde dagen,
Bezonderlijk omdat alsnog de vijand wreet
Het Munstersche gespuis ons hoofd tot spitse biedt,
Waartegen hij onlangs met Wirdum heeft gestreden,
Zoodat hij op zijn post den vijand heeft gekeerd,
Omdat hij zijnen volk in order had geleerd,
Waar dat het noodig was met wagten uit te zetten
Wist hij met goed beleid ten nauwste op te letten,
Zoodat door zijn bestuur veel afbreuk is gedaan
En dat de vijand zelfs met schaamte terug moest gaan.
