Notes about Ds. Jacob Adriaansz. Ouwejan

Staat niet vast of hij betrokken was bij het scheepsbouw bedrijf van zijn vader en broer. Wel dat

van 1729 tot 1732 hij eigenaar was van de papiermolen de Morgenster te Oostzaandam. In 1726 werd

hij gekozen tot vermaner in het Nieuwe Huis en dat bleef hij tot 1740. Toen vertrok hij naar

Dantzig waardoor zijn bemiddeling een einde kwam aan gerezen moeilijkheden. De DG gemeente aldaar

was al heel oud en is zelfs nog door Menno Simonsz. persoonlijk bezocht. In de tijd van Alva zijn

velen van hier naar Dantzig gevlucht en tot ongeveer 1750 was Nederlands de kerktaal. In de 17de

en 18de eeuw werden vele jonge mannen van daar naar hier gestuurd om opgeleid te worden voor de

handel . Tot 1772 stond de stad onder protectoraat van Polen en dat heeft voor de DG vrijwel

voortdurend willekeur en onderdrukking betekend. In 1742 keerde ds Ouwejan terug omdat hij

beroepen was in Rotterdam. Daar heeft hij tot zijn dood in 1781 39 jaar als voorganger gediend.
