Thomas Miller (John 2, John 1) born in Stortford before 1561; buried in Bishop's Stortford, 23 May 1627. His will is given in Appendix 5. (Copied below). He matriculated as a pensioner as Thos. Mylner at Trinity College, Cambridge, Michaelmas 1581; received the degree of B.A., 1584/5 and M.A. 1588. He lived in Bishop's Stortford from 1590 to 1627. In the Parish Register he is called "Mr. Thomas Miller," in Hadham Hall Court records "Thomas Miller, Gent.", indicating that he was held in high esteem. He married Agnes (possibly but not necessarily as his 2nd wife), and settled on her by jointure, 7 Mar 1620, his dwelling in Stortford (Dane O'Coys). She was buried in Stortford, 8 Aug 1643. As his marriage occurred outside of Stortford and the death of his first wife, if any, is not recorded in Stortford, is is impossible to state which children were by Agnes, excepting Joseph, baptized in 1616, the entry reading as follows: "Joseph Miller sonne of Thomas & Agnes." The practice of registering the names of both parents began in Stortford May 1615, about a year and a half before Joseph was baptized. [1]
