Jeannine was born on March 28, 1959 in Alexandria, LA to Martha Layssard Marien and Francis Marvin Marien and passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family after an eight-month long battle with brain cancer on Sunday, August 21, 2022 in Shreveport at the age of 63.
Jeannine's father passed away when she was 14 and she was emancipated and on her own by 17. She worked much of her teenage years and almost her entire adult life. She completed cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist in Baton Rouge in her 20s. She started college in earnest in her 30s and received her first bachelor's degree then, after which she worked as a librarian, social worker, a counselor at the Louisiana School for Math Sciences and the Arts, and a high school special education teacher. She completed another bachelor's degree and her Masters of Social Work in her 50s. She then began the work that became the major passion of her life, helping veterans cope with their problems. She first worked as a contractor to the Shreveport Vets Center at Counseling Services Inc, in Natchitoches, LA. She then worked for the Alexandria Vets Center and finished her career working at the Shreveport Vets Center. During this time, she helped hundreds of Veterans with a wide variety of problems.
She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Marvin Marien; her mother, Martha Layssard Marien; her sister, Francis Middleton; and brother, James Marien.
She is survived by her husband and life partner of 28 years, Kevin Ammons; brother, Joseph M. Marien, Sr.; sisters, Martha M. Perkins and Angelia M. Dunn (Ryan); a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her cat Toby are left to cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to charities supporting veterans or charities supporting brain cancer research and those suffering from this terrible illness.
