Adolph Vink, 17 years old, of R.D. No. 1. Churchville, was accidentally shot and killed by another hunter late yesterday afternoon, while he was hunting pheasants on the farm of Levi Sturge, in the Town, of Riga. An accidental death certificate was issued by Coroner David H. Atwater. Vink's death is the first fatality, of the hunting season.
Deputy Sheriffs investigated and learned Vink and an older brother, Myron, were walking beside a hedge on the Sturge farm when a pheasant flew from the hedge and into the air only a few feet from them. The pheasant's flight brought fire, from the gun of Alexander Yurgealitis, 17 years old, of No. 660 Norton street, who was less than twenty feet away on the other side of the hedge. Shots from the gun entered Vink's chest and he fell forward on his face.
He was carried to a nearby farmhouse and Dr. W. J. Burt, of Caledonia was summoned. The youth died a few minutes after Dr. Burt's arrival. Death is believed to have resulted from internal hemorrhages.
Yurgealitis and members of his party said they saw Vink and his brother a short time before the shooting, but believed they were in another part of the field. Yurgealitis was not held. The investigation was conducted by Sheriff's Deputies Bennett, Clark, Raustler and Hovey.
