OGDEN - Henry Maathuis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend died peacefully Monday, March 25, 2002.
Henry was born July 8, 1912 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Tammo and Dievertje VanderDoes Maathuis. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1929 and then from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Zion National Park during 1934 to 1935. He also worked as a driver for the Ogden Transit Co.
On May 18, 1938 he was married to Myrtle Harriet Berrett in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have shared nearly 64 wonderful years together.
During World War II he served in the Navy as an electronics instructor at the U.S. Navy Training Center in Chicago, IL. Following the war, he worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield, UT as the chief electrical foreman. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1973.
He was a faithful member of the LDS church. He served as a ward clerk for 26 years in the Ogden 7th and 56th Wards where he was known for his accurate and meticulous record keeping. He was a good neighbor and friend to everyone. He enjoyed traveling and had visited many parts of the United States.
He is survived by his loving wife; two daughters, Elaine (Paul) Bryner and Lois Maathuis; a son-in-law, Edward A. Capell; six beloved grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Capell and a granddaughter.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Dr. Seth Lewis and the caregivers at Ogden Regional Medical Center for their kindness.
