Edward Allen Teune, a longtime Warsaw resident, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 11 p.m. in Fort WayneâÙLs Lutheran Hospital. He was 73 years old.
Born in Cicero, Illinois on June 30, 1946, Ed, as most knew him, was the son of John and Ruth (Huisenga) Teune. He was one of six children and graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he earned a BachelorâÙLs in education.
Ed was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, having earned the rank of specialist fourth class. He entered service to our country on November 20, 1968 in Chicago and was discharged on June 23, 1970 from the personnel center in Oakland, California.
Professionally, Ed was the thirty-three-year owner/operator of Masonry Foam Insulation, Inc. He was a member of American Legion Post 36, Rochester and a member of ChristâÙLs Covenant Church. He enjoyed fishing, and time spent visiting with friends and family. He enjoyed driving, taking in the sights and found a sideline in his retirement delivering trailers for Horizon Transport.
On February 8, 1975, Ed was united in marriage to Jean B. Gackenheimer in Wabash " she survives at home. Also surviving with memories to cherish are their son, John R. Teune of Warsaw; daughter, Elaine (Darrell) Thompson of Warsaw and son, Eric (Stephanie) Teune of Winona Lake. Sisters, Marjorie Prince of Grand Rapids, MI and Marybeth (Ken) Hekman of Holland, MI; brothers, Jon (Sue) Teune of Grand Rapids and Jim (Jean) Teune of Zeeland, MI; mother, Ruth Teune of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Rev. Tim Douma of Chicago, IL and grandchildren, Alyssa, Erika and Maddison also survive. Those who preceded Ed in passing include his sister, Carolyn Douma, his father and two nieces, Carla Hekman and Justine Teune.
