Biographical Summary
"Amos Ameredeth, otherwise Meredith of Marston in Tamerton Folliott, co Devon, and subsequently (in right of his 2nd marriage) of Ashley, co Cheshire son and heir of Edward Ameredeth of Marston, by Margaret, relict of Gamaliel Slanning, daughter of Edward Marten, of London, was created a Baronet [S] 2 January 1638/9 or 2 June 1639, with rem. to heirs male whatsoever and with, presumably, a grant of land in Nova Scotia, of which, however, he apparently never had seizin. During the Civil War he was Col. of a troop of Horse and Gov. of Exmouth for the King, in whose cause he is said to have expended £20,000. At the Restoration he was made a Gent. of the Privy Chamber. He was M.P. [I] for Ballynakill, 1661-66, and was a Commissioner of Excise and Custom [I]. He married firstly, Elizabeth, widow of Francis Courtenay, of Powderham (died 5 June 1638), daughter of Sir Edward Seymour, 2nd Baronet [1611], by Dorothy, daughter of Sir Henry Killigrew. By her he had no male issue. He married secondly, 6 February 664, at Bowdon, co Cheshire Anne, 2nd daughter of Robert Tatton, of Whithenshaw, by Jane, daughter of William, and sister and coheir of Thomas Brereton, of Ashley. He died 5 and was buried 8 December 1669 in the burial place of Sir Charles Meredith at St Patrick's, Dublin. His widow, living 2 June 1685, married as his 1st wife, Sir Samuel Daniell, of Over Tabley, co Cheshire, who died s.p.s. 24 December 1726."
