Thomas N. Van Den Bosch, 86,Edgerton, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage, Luverne.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 1 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church, Edgerton.
A private family burial was held prior to the service at Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.
ThomasN. Van Den Bosch was one of 13 children born to Neal and Bertha (Scheltema) Van Den Bosch. He was born on Oct. 1, 1921 in Doon, Iowa. He was raised in Estelline, S.D. where he also attended school. Upon completion of his education, he served his country for two years with eight months of that in Japan.
He married Henrietta Vander Woude on March 15, 1945. Following their marriage they lived and farmed northeast of Edgerton. In 1956 he joined Watkins as a feed salesman.
Henrietta preceded him in death in 1992.
On July 9, 1994 he married Lena (Kuipers) Van Essen. After their marriage they lived in Edgerton. Tom continued to work for Watkins until his retirement in 1995.
On December 26, 2007 he entered the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage, Luverne.
He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton where he served as an elder, taught catechism classes and served on many committees including the World Home Bible League. He served as president of the Elementary School Board. He was active in the community in the American Legion, Southwest Opportunity Council, Hope Day Activity Board, and Pipestone County Zoning and Appeals Board.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Van Den Bosch, Edgerton; seven children, Tom (Carol), Sioux Center, Iowa; Gene (Gloria), Northfield; Cheryln (Virg) Christoffels, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Bob (Karen) Van Essen, Edgerton; Dave (Leanne) Van Essen, Lebanon, Ore.; Sherry (Earl) DeWilde, Holland and Sandy (Bruce) Gilman, Kentwood, Mich.; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six siblings, Tillie Kooi, Artie Heibolt, Sadie Christeson, Marion Mulder, Lyda De Jong, and Stell Menning.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Henrietta; his great-grandson, Caleb Andersen, two brothers and four sisters.
