Brother : Andrew W. Creswell - Sibling : Martha Jean - Text OBITUARY : Eleanor Catherine van Lierop was born on March 25, 1921 to Rev. Dr. Andrew S. and Eleanor Wilson Creswell. She studied at Muskingum College and then University of Michigan, where she met her husband, and they were married in 1943. She completed her BS at University of Pittsburgh in 1955. The van Lierop's served as missionaries to South Korea under the United Presbyterian Mission Board from 1949 to 1977. During the Korean War, they were evacuated to Japan until allowed to return, where Eleanor taught English part-time at two Korean universities. In 1960 Eleanor founded a rehabilitation home in Seoul, Korea, for runaway girls and prostitutes called House of Grace, which later was renamed Ae Ran Won, her name in Korean, and for which she received awards from the Korean government. Eleanor also earned an MA in TESL (1961) and an MSW (1967) from Columbia University. The van Lierop's returned to the States in 1977 and lived in Sheboygan, WI, where she taught ESL at a community college. In 1987, she and Peter moved to a retirement village for missionaries in Duarte, CA and then relocated to the Chicago area in 2005 to reside at Bridgeway Senior Living in Bensenville, where she enjoyed its varied activities and friendships. Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late Peter; loving mother of Peter (Cheryl) van Lierop, J. Bernard H. (Chris) van Lierop, Eleanor (Jim) Warrington, Martha (Mike) Valasek and Andrea (Dr. John) Paik-Tesch; Grandmother of 10 and Great-Grandmother of 12; dear sister of Rev. Andrew W. Creswell and the late Martha Jean Spotts; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
