WWII, Army, Radioman
Grave #861
Ken was a radio man in the Army during WWII. He fixed radios and TVs back in the early days of television. His family didn't have a TV so when he would fix one, they would "try it out" for a week to make sure it worked! In 1963 His job transferred his family to Cherry Hill, New Jersey from St. Louis Missouri. He worked for Sandia Corporation based in Albaquerque, New Mexico. His job was electronics in nature. One aspect of the job was to inspect parts for satelites just being built at the time.
Ken had a pilot's license and loved to fly. He was an instructor as well. He loved to build model airplanes out of balsa wood. He was building a radio controlled one when he died. He used to take his children to the airport on Sundays to watch the planes take off. He even flew his new Bride to Cincinatti, Ohio for their honeymoon. They were headed for New York but had heard that there was bad weather on the other side of the mountains so they opted to land in Cincinatti. While they were dating, he would fly Helen to places on a date. Helen will tell you that he would fly over her farm when she was weeding the onion patch and holler down to her. One time, he took her up in an open cockpit, biplane and did a loop in the sky!
Ken also loved music. He played the electric guitar and the piano. The guitar was his favorite however. His favorite song that he played on the piano was Clare D'Lune.
Ken had several sayings that he would throw back at his children. When they said something profound, he would say, "That's using your head for something besides keeping your ears apart." If you said that your nose was running, he would say," Oh! So you are built backwards. Your feet smell and your nose runs!"...He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always joking and always had a smiling face.
