CommentaryThe children of Elbert Symonsz. Pool paid a tax of 150 f. in 1631. They were living on the Nieuwendijck (West side) (Kohier, fol. 78v, p. 19). It was presumably Elbert's father, Sijmen Cornelisz. Pool, the son of Cornelis Pietersz. Out, living in the house in de Pool, who invested 1200 f. in V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, De oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 185) and who appeared as buyer in a 1624 sale. He was the brother of Elbert Symonsz. (see R 25308 of Montias2). On 30 September 1607 Elbert Symonsz. and his wife Lutje Claes had their daughter Annetje baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Brechje Claes (van Hoorn) (DTB 39/134). On 3 May 1609. Elbert Symonsz., butter merchant (boterkoper) and his wife Lutje Claes (van Hoorn) had their son Sijmon baptized in the presence of Kornelis Sijmonsz. and Weijntje van Neck (DTB 4/121). On 4 January 1611, Elbert Symonsz. Pool, widower of Sytge Klaes (sic), living in the Nieuwesyds Kapelle, assisted by Pieter Symonsz. Pool. his brother, was betrothed to Elisabeth Gerrits, 18, living on Nieuwe Dijck, assisted by Cornelis Colijn, her uncle, and Claes Pietersz. (DTB 414/455). On 4 September 1619, Elbert Symonsz. Pool, as husband and guardian of Lysbeth Gerrits, on the one hand, and Dieuwer Gerrits with Jan Willemsz., her husband and guardian, on the other, Cornelis Goris, in the name of Pieter Pietersz. Out, the son of the late Pieter Gerritsz. Out, whose mother is Brechtgen Jans van Horensdr. on the third side, as well as Claes Pietersz. van Vierhuysen (the father of Jan Claesz. van Vierhuysen of R 28941) and Cornelis Gerritsz. as guardians over Jan and Tryn Gerrits, on the fourth and fifth sides, and Judith Louris, the daughter of the late Job Gerritsz. together with Gysbert Lambrechtsz., her present husband on the sixth side were slated to share certain obligations (rentebrieven) in six lots (WK 5073/789). On 2 December 1620, Barent Jansz. Kuijper, and Jan Arentsz., testamenteurs of Elbert Symonsz. Pool, brought 6000 f. to the Orphan Chamber on behalf of Neeltgen, 7, and Gerrit, 5, whose late mother was Lysbeth Gerrit Outensdr. Among the other assets: een huijs ende erve staende in Pr. Jacobs Capelsteech daer de Pool uythangt (WK 5073/789). On 27 February 1624, Cornelis Gorisz., sailmaker, turned over to the Orphan Chamber the sum of 741 f. for the children of Elbert Simonsz. Pool, this sum representing their fourth share in the inheritance from their uncle Jan Gerritsz. Out. The total due to the children from various sources, including mainly rents on houses owned by the late Elbert Pool, came to f. 10,318 (ibid.) On 21 November 1624, the masters of the Orphan Chamber named Jan Tonisz., apothecary, along with Jan Arentsz. as co-guardians over the children left by Elbert Symonsz. Pool (WK 5073/513, fol. 23). On 18 February 1637, Henricus Geldorpius, predicant, was named guardian in the place of Jan Arentsz. (ibid.) Hendrick Geldorp married Neeltje Elberts Pool. On 15 December 1667, the creditors of the late painter Johannes Beerstraten made a claim of preferential status on the latter's estate after Neeltie Elberts Pool, widow of Domine Henricus Geldorpius, had exhibited at the Desolate Boedelskamer three obligations signed by the house carpenter Frederick Douwes made in the name of Johannes Beerstraten, one for 1,000 f., another for 200 f., and the third for 600 f., which Beerstraten had transferred to the painter Johannes Collaert, which in turn had been transferred to the widow of Geldorpius. The commissaries of the DBK had decided that Neeltie Elberts Pool was entitled to first claim on 1,800 f. plus interest. Louis Crayers (of INVNO 464), as the guardian of the children of Daniel Abrahamsen Beerstraeten, together with Frederick Douwesz., was named second claimant on the sum of 1,000 f. (Bredius, Künstler-inventare pp.818-9).
