JOHN E. DYKSTRA , 81, of 1121 6th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. John was born November 11, 1924, in Thomson, IL to Joseph and Kate (Buikema) Dykstra. He was educated in the Thomson Grade School. He married Doris R. Vanderploeg on June 19, 1945 in Fulton, IL. John engaged in farming in the rural Morrison and Fulton, IL areas. He was also employed by Drives Inc. of Fulton, retiring in 1988. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and served as a deacon, a Cadet Counselor and belonged to the church’s Men’s Society. He was a member of the Whiteside Farm Bureau and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the fellowship of family gatherings on Sundays. Survivors include his wife, Doris; one daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Wayne) Rickertsen of Low Moor, IA; four sons, Len (Shirley) Dykstra of Fulton, Russ (Julie) Dykstra of Fulton, Dave (Laurie) Dykstra of Morrison, and Warren (Karen) Dykstra of Clinton, IA; seven grandchildren, Lori (Mrs. Joel) Brown; Jason Rickertsen; Jeff Dykstra, Deanna Lankford, Kendall Dykstra; Matthew and Kristen Dykstra; two step grandchildren, John and Chris Williams; four great grandchildren, Justin Brown, Stephanie and Makayla Lankford; Taylor Dykstra; one sister, Kathryn (Clarence) Huizenga of Fulton; one brother, Sebert (Wilma) Dykstra of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gertrude Nelson; one brother, Allen Dykstra.
