?Effie Swier was a member of the pioneer Holland settlement in Moxee... She came to the Yakima Valley in 1901 with parents. The family was one of the original families of settlers with the HollandGroup.
She was a member of first graduating class of St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Yakima. She also graduated from the San Anselmo (California) Theological Seminary. Effie served as medical missionary for five years in Korea under sponsorship of Presbyterian Church.
She returned to the Stats to help raise the children of her sister, Gertrude Labberton when she died. Later she moved to the family farm to care for her parents as they grew older and needed help in the home. Effie also helped with raising her sister Renas boys, Bill and Jim,and Dick Labberton's daughter, Sally.
