Ray V. Gubbels, 87, of Randolph, Nebraska, died October 26, 2007, at Osmond General Hospital in Osmond, Nebraska. Visitation, with a rosary, was October 28 at St. Frances Catholic Church in Randolph. Funeral services were October 29 at St. Frances Catholic Church, with Rev. John Andrews officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery, with military rites accorded by Alvin Kessler Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113, Randolph. Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Brian Gubbels, Ray Gubbels, Adam Gubbels, Andy Haas, Kendall Gubbels, Dan Haas, Steven Gubbels and Michael Gubbels. Honorary pallbearers were all of Ray’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ray was survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorita Gubbels, of Randolph, Neb.; six children and their spouses, Robert and Gloria Gubbels, of Streator, Ill., Howard and Eileen Gubbels, of Randolph, Neb., Darrell and Betsy Gubbels, of Franktown, Colo., Dale and Mary Gubbels, of Pappillion, Neb., Kevin and Lisa Gubbels, of Randolph, Neb., and Jeanne and David Haas, of Yankton, S.Dak.; and 27 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, in infancy; four brothers, Tony, Aloie, Leonard and Delbert; and one sister, Velna Leiting.
attended St. Frances Catholic School in Randolph. Ray entered the United States Army April 20, 1945, and was discharged Dec. 6, 1946. He served the 46th Engineer Construction Battalion during the reconstruction of Japan.
Ray and Lorita farmed near Randolph. Ray enjoyed tinkering and fixing things on and around the farm. He was a member of St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
