Jacob began his skill at the age of 15 with Anthonie Begeer. Five years later he went to the Koninklijke Tekenacademie in Germany where he worked specifically with modelling. After graduating he went to work in the factory of Anthonie Begeer. Jacob made many 'gelegenheids- en herinneringspenningen' and a number of awards, including the Karl Landsteiner medal and the Commemorative Medal in 1926. In his 50th year of employment in 1939 he was offered an anniversary medal, designed by M P J Fleur.
In the Central Museum in Utrecht (CMU) there are 74 (mostly commemorative) medals of his hand. These often relate to the Royal House, to (official) anniversaries and to Utrecht and its surroundings. All medals were issued by his employer Koninklijke Begeer in Voorschoten. The first was the inauguration medal for Queen Wilhelmina (1898). Of the period between 1900 and 1925, 23 are present at the CMU, 50 between 1926 and 1950.
