There were eventually three bondholders registered in 1917 over this 5433 ha. 'perpetual quitrent' property. One was his brother Wouter, another was John Hunter Roux and the third, added a couple of years later, was William Genis, a member of his wife's family. He was unable to pay the dues owing to Roux and when interest arrears started mounting the latter brought a case to court for the property to be sold. The movable and immovable property involved was valued in 1923 by the Divisional Council at £1000, against the net claim by the plaintiff for £982/17/10.
