Matthys Jansen Laenen came to New Netherland on de Roseboom (Rose Tree) in 15 March 1663.With him were his wife and four children, ages 17, 15, 13 and 11 years. His wife died during the voyage to New Netherland. His brother Teunis, and his family, came on the same ship. Matthys is the ancestor of the Lane families of Monmouth, Somerset and Hunterdon counties, New Jersey.
On 31 March 1683 Recorded in Kings County Deeds, Lib. 1, page 18, an agreement by which Aryantie, the widow of Matthys/Tys Janssen Lanen, is to make payment from the estate of her late husband to his six children, four hundred guilders each. Signing are Jan Van Dyck (husband of daughter Tuentje), Tunis Lanen (brother of Mattys) and Hendrick Matthysen Smack as guardian for sons Jan and Jacob, Touis Jaeresse (sic, Teunis Idense, husband of daughter Jannetje), and sons Hendrick Tyson and Gysbert Tyson. Not mentioned as children are: daughter Annetje, daughter Lysbeth or son Pieter (all of whom are stated to be children of Thys Jansen Lane by A. Van Dorn Honeyman in SCHQ 2:116-119). On 15 October 1687, receipt of payment is acknowledged by all of the above mentioned as being received from Cornelius Mynhart (sic, Cornelius Wynhart).
