Tobias was born when his mother was about 48 years old.
 
Tobias Jocob Borgerding Barhorst was born 1728 in Damme, Germany and died 1793. He married Anna Catharina Burwinckel 1756 in Damme, Germany.
 
Anna Catharina Burwinckel was the widow of Johann Heinrich Barhorst. She inherited the Barhorst farm and she married Tobias J. Borgerding he had to change his name to Barhorst. Tobias and Elizabeth Wehenbrink, his second wife, moved to Steinfeld to take over the Wieverig farm about 1794. Anna and Tobias had two children.
 
Various descendents of this union migrated to the Netherlands and from there at least two separate groups came to the USA. The first group in 1836. this group came into the USA through Baltimore and eventually ended up in the Shelby County and Minster, Ohio.
 
The second family came to the USA in 1866 and ended up in Paterson, New Jersey. [familyluthmanlatest1.FTW]
 
When Anna Catharina Burwinckel became a widow, she remarried to Tobias Borgerding who took the Barhorst Farm name. These are the origins of the Borgerding family. Land and people inventories similar to the Barhorst occurred for the Borgerding generations. They also lived at the Iholts community since at least 1535 (see map):
