  AT 10 A.M. on February 3rd I was summoned by a midwife to Mrs. J., aged 38. She was a strongly-built woman, and told me that this was her thirteenth pregnancy, and that she had had four miscarriages. The last three children had been born at the eighth month, but had been reared. No previous multiple pregnancies, but her mother had had three twin pregnancies. I found that she had been delivered at 8 A.M. of a male feetus of about six months. She considered herself to be about 6- months gone.
  
  There had been no difficulty; but the midwife at 10 A.M. thought the placenta was adherent, and sent for me. On external inspection I found that there was another feetus in utero. Examining per vaginam, there was a fleshy mass adherent to the wall of the uterus about half way between the os internum and the fundus, and almost blocking the uterus up. This had no doubt been mistaken by the midwife for the placenta, but the cord could be traced up beyond the mass towards the fundus. On the far side of the fleshy mass a second bag of membranes could be distinctly felt. I put the patient under chloroform, and with my hand removed the fleshy mass, which was a matter of considerable time and patience, as it was intimately adherent to the wall of the uterus. I found that at the area of insertion of the fleshy mole the wall of the uterus was only about a quarter of an inch thick.
  
  There being only moderate haemorrhage, and the uterus contracting upon the second foetus, I ruptured the membranes, and having seized a knee easily delivered a female child, about the same age as the male child. After waiting half an hour, and being unable to express the placenta, I examined again, and found it to be adherent to the fundus. I managed to detach it fairly easily with my hand, and to my great relief the operation was followed by immediate and powerful contraction of the uterus. The haemorrhage was almost infinitesimal. The placental mass consisted of two separate placenta joined at one edge, with the " battledore " insertion of the cords at the free edges. The children lived for twelve hours; the mother has made an uninterruptedly good recovery, with normal temperature and natural discharge. The woman is very healthy, has never suffered from any wasting disease, and has had no accident to account for the premature birth.

  I am aware of the fact that there is a hint on Ancestry that seems to indicate a marriage of Selina Rosina Jones to Francis Charles, the brother of Alfred James Servaes. This marriage did not take place, as can be verified on Free BMD, but there is a story behind it.
  
  Selina was engaged to be married to Francis Charles Servaes and the indication with Ancestry makes it clear that a date was planned in St.Paul, Upper Holloway. When Alfred James returned home from the Boer War in South Africa she married him, which caused a degree of bad feelings in the family. It made that Francis Charles left the country for South Africa, where he married for a second time and he later moved to Australia. He never returned.
  
  Francis was listed as a widower with the outlook of this wedding, but Bertha was still alive and would be till 1944.

  RAILWAY EXTENSION WANTED.
  FROM BOURKE TO HUNGERFORD.
  FIRST SECTION OF GRAND TRUNK
  RAILWAY.
  Last week a meeting of pastoralists and
  others was held at Thargomindah (Q.), for
  the purpose of furthering the railway exten-
  sion from Bourke to Hungerford, thence to
  Tobermorey, via Thargomindah. Mr. R.
  Speedy occupied the chair. He pointed out
  that the line from Bourke to Hungerford
  would be the first section of the Grand Trunk
  line, and if the Queensland Government could
  be urged to extend the line from Hungerford
  to Tobermorey, it would mean the linking up
  of the South-west railway; also, that the
  Transcontinental line would be made eventu-
  ally from Sydney to Port Darwin. Hungerford
  was distant about 100 miles from Thargo-
  mindah, whereas Cunnamulla was 140 miles.
  Mr. H. B. Paterson (Boorara) said such a
  railway as they were advocating should have
  been constructed long ago, and that with the
  exception of the sinking of indispensable ar-
  tesian bores the treatment meted out to this
  district was not commensurate with its splen-
  did potentialities. If the railway were con-
  structed from Bourke to Hungerford, and
  thence on to Tobermorey, they would have
  a better chance of opening up the country.
  He had arranged with Mr. Sidney Kidman
  that they should interview Mr. Griffith,
  Minister for Works, but unfortunately they
  had been unable to secure an interview. He
  had, however, seen Mr. Waddell, M.L.A., late
  Treasurer of New South Wales, and that
  gentleman had said that if the residents in
  the district could urge the Queensland Go-
  vernment to extend the line from Hungerford
  to Tobermorey, the first sod of the Bourke-
  Hungerford line would be turned in 12 or 18
  months' time. The line would be the first
  section of the Grand Trunk railway from
  Sydney to Port Darwin. There was at pre-
  sent under construction from Kalgoorlie to
  Port Augusta a Transcontinental line, which
  would run right across South Australia. The
  second section of the line from Sydney to
  Port Darwin would be that of Hungerford to
  Tobermorey. The Queensland Government
  should not complain about the above line
  drawing trade away. Mr. Griffith, Minister
  for Works, had stated that Premier Denham
  had discussed the matter with him relative
  to the extension of the North Coast line to
  the Tweed River (which had a 4ft 8½in gauge)
  and the North-western line up to the Queens-
  land border, and had promised to build a line
  to join the Bourke-Hungerford line.
  A motion was carried urging the Govern-
  ments of New South Wales and Queensland
  to proceed without delay upon the permanent
  survey from Bourke to Tobermorey.
  It was also resolved,—"That, inasmuch as
  the immediate commencement of work on the
  first section would afford rapid transit to
  thousands of stock, which would otherwise
  perish, this meeting is of opinion that the
  New South Wales Government should be
  urged to commence the first section without
  awaiting the completion of the said survey."
  The mover, Dr. Servaes, said Mr. Wragge
  had predicted another drought, and if that
  came to pass there would be enormous losses
  of stock that could be saved if they had the
  railway. It behoved everyone, especially the
  pastoralists, to make every endeavour to have
  the line extended.
  It was resolved that the following reasons
  be urged upon the Queensland Government:—
  To Tobermorey:—
  (a) The line, if constructed in a straight line from
  Hungerford to Tobermorey, would not only escape
  the flood-waters of the Bulloo, but, owing to the
  nature of the country and the absence of wide
  steams to be bridged, would present a minimum
  of engineering difficulties.
  (b) The line would open up for closer settlement
  much good sheep country south and south-west of
  Thargomindah, and would result in the conversion
  into sheep runs of many cattle leases.
  (c) In the course of a few years the Government
  would be able to resume portions of many of the
  runs in this district without paying any compensa-
  tion.
  (d) In the event of the line being extended from
  Bourke to Hungerford, but not continued to Tober-
  morey, it is a reasonable assumption that Sydney
  would become the outlet for the major portion
  of the south-western trade.
  (e) In times of drought the pastoralists of these
  districts, who annually pay the State thousands of
  pounds in rents and taxes, would be freed from
  the heavy losses which have hitherto befallen them
  during the dry weather.
  (f) That the proposed route for the grand trunk
  line (via Bourke, Hungerford, and Tobermorey)
  would be the most advantageous to both New South
  Wales and Queensland, whether considered as a
  business proposition or in the purely national
  sense of a highway for the rapid mobilisation of
  troops.
  (g) The extension of the line to Tobermorey would
  mean the completion of the first two sections of
  the grand trunk line, which must eventually be
  built for defence purposes.

There is no divorce documentation known, so it seems that Francis left her for some reason.
