Mrs. John Korver, nee Kate Muyskens, early Alton resident, died at Berkeley, Calif. Monday at the age of 80 years, according to a telephone message to relatives her from Mrs. Korver's daughter Marjorie, Mrs. Edgar Roth of Sioux City. The latter expected to go to California for the funeral of her mother who passed on following a heart attack.
The family lived for years in this vicinity, on the Korver farm, now the home of the Albert Hansen family.
Children surviving are Martina, Mathilda, Gertruda (Mrs. Howard Scholten) , Marie, Robert, George and William, and Mrs. Roth from Sioux City. Her husband and one son, John predeced Mrs. Korver in death some years ago. A sister, Miss Marie Muyskens and brother Dr. Wm Muyskens, both of Detroit, are the only survivors of the large Muyskens family.

Fine citizen and staunch friend, many will miss this splendid man.
Mr. John Korver, for many years a resident of the farm just west of Alton, will be greatly missed by a very wide circle of friends. The family have the deep sympathy of this community in the loss of a wonderful husband and father. His life was a source of inspiration to his family and friends, full of unselfish service to those about him and of sacrifice for those he loved. The Democrat joins in sympathy with those left behind, believing at the same time, that greater reward in the Beyound could be earned by few mortal men than he earned in a lifetime of unselfish and earnest endeavor to do the right.
John Korver died at the Methodist Hospital at Sioux City on July 31, 1930 after two months of patient suffering from cancer.
He was born in Pella, Iowa on Feb. 8, 1870 and came in a covered wagon with his parents to Sioux county in 1871. They homesteaded northwest of Alton, living in a sod hut for a number of years, and later moved 5 miles east of Orange City. Here he lived until the time of his marriage to Kate Muyskens in 1895, when he moved back to the homestead. In 1900 he moved nearer to Alton where he farmed until 1928. He was a member of the Alton Ref. Church and for a number of years served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
In 1928, he with his family, moved to Sheldon and united with the Reformed Church there.
On May 30, 1930 he was taken ill and on June 5, underwent an operation at Sioux City. He was a patient sufferer for two months. During his illness he was cared for by his daughter Marjorie who is a trained nurse.
Funeral services took place at the Sheldon Reformed church on Saturday, August 2. The Revs. Euwema of Alton and Tietma of Sheldon had charge of the services. He was laid to rest in the Sheldon cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his wife and nine children as follows: John, of Worthington, Minn., William of Red Bank, New Jersey, Marjorie of Sioux City, Martina J., Gertrude, George, Gerrit and three sisters: Mrs. John Mouw, Mrs. Riensma and Mrs. E. Mouw all of Orange City except Mrs. Mouw who resides at Edgerton, Minn.
Many relatives and friends from the neighboring towns were present at the funeral. Among those present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Nic. Ter Louw, Mr. Henry Ter Louw and Mrs. Vos of Pella; Mr. and Mrs. Koolman of Edgerton, Minn. and Mr. and Mrs. Johnston and daughter Amy of Linn Grove.
William Korver of Redbank, New Jersey, who visited his father for three weeks in June, was unable to return for the funeral _ Alton Democrat.
