Newark Richard "Dick" Francis Monje, 80 died after a brief illness at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.
Friends may visit the family on December 9, 2006 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the family home, 1315 Hillside Dr. in Newark.

Dick was born the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Brugge Monje on August 1, 1926 in Hialeah, Florida. He was a graduate of Newark High School in 1944. Dick took accelerated classes to graduate in December of 1944 so he could join the Air Force and serve his country during WWII. The funeral home proudly flies the Air Force flag in honor of his service. Dick returned from the war and worked as a construction mason at various locations retiring several years ago.
Dick was a past member of Palmyra Moose Lodge, Newark Elks and The Deep Trollers of Sodus Point. He was a great photographer with many of his photos on display in his home. Dick enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and his flower garden. He was known throughout the area for his beautiful dahlias.
Dick will be remembered by his son John Monje of Delhi; daughters Sharon Monje and husband Joseph Lawson of Prattsburg, Marcia (Brian) Olenych of Bovina Center and Jennifer (John) Hurlburt of Newark; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brothers Frank (Dottie) Monje of Wolcott and James Monje of Newark; sister Gloria (Sock) Rogers of Indiana; many nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his wife Joyce Stripp Monje on April 24, 2005.
