Ari, John W's son is also listed as living with Agnes in the 1900 census. He was then 17 years old.
Note from Linda: I find that little Arie was raised after his father died in 1891 by his aunt Charles & Agnes (Kuyper) Harmelink. She listed him as her son in her obit. Arie was married but don't know who his wife would be, and he had an adopted daughter Carol Agnes, who loved her grandmother Agnes (Kuyper) Harmelink.
Agnes and Chas had no natural born children.

After suffering with arthritis or more than 27 years, Mrs. Chares Harmelink passed away on Thursday, June 29.
She was born on February 6, 1867, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arie Kuyper of Pella, Iowa. She came to Sioux County to Alton 62 years ago. In the year 1884 on December 3 she was married to Charles Harmelink at Newkirk. The couple spent the first year of wedded life in Hospers where he owned a store. The next four years were spent at Alton after which they moved to a farm a half-mile west of Newkirk where they continued to live until they moved to Orange City 23 years ago.
While still on the farm Mrs. Harmelink became suddenly ill with arthritis, which disease did not leave her until the time of her death. The 27 years were filled with intense suffering, but the burden was lightened by the kind and loving care given her by her husband until his passing 11 years ago, and later on by faithful friends who assisted in the home, and the past few years to her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arie Kuyper near Newkirk, at whose home she passed away.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the First Ref. Church of Orange City. Rev. H. Colenbrander and Rev. John Ter Louw of Steen, Minn, were in charge of the services. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
Surviving Mrs. Harmelink are her two sisters, Mrs. Joe Rexwinkle of Alton and Mrs. Dick Ruisch of Orange City.
