Andronikos var sin fars eldste sønn.
I 1067, under Dudokia Dukainas regentskap fra 21/5 til 31/12, var han medregent
sammen med Michael og Konstantin Dukas. Han var i 1073 protoproedros og fikk som gave
gods av statsområdet Milet og andre gods.
I 1073 ble han fanget sammen med sin far.

While he was commander of the reserves at Manzikert and as an agent of the beurocrats who opposed Emperor Romanus IV Diogenes, he gave the signal for thr rear gaurd to retreat. The betrayal became general and soon the Emperor was left alone and fell, wounded to the Seljuk Turks.

Andronikos Doukas or Andronicus Ducas (Greek: ??d??????? ????a?), (died 14 October 1077) was a protovestiarios and protoproedros de the Byzantine Empire.

Protovestiarios (Greek: p??t?ßest??????, "first vestiarios'") was a high Byzantine court position, originally reserved for eunuchs.[1] The title is first attested in 412, and was in charge de the emperor's private wardrobe, the sacra vestis.[1] In subsequent centuries, the holders de this office came second to the parakoimomenos in court hierarchy, functioning as their aides. In the 9th-11th centuries, protovestiarioi were appointed as generals and ambassadors.[1] In the 11th century, the title rose further in importance, eclipsing the kouropalates;[2] transformed into an honorary title, it began being given to non-eunuchs, including members de the imperial family.[3] As such, the title survived until the late Palaiologan period, its holders including high-ranking ministers and future emperors.[1]

The female equivalent was the protovestiaria (Greek: p??t?ßest????a), the head de the empress' servants. Protovestiarioi are also attested for private citizens, in which case again the title refers to their head servant and treasurer.[1]

cæsar & his wife Eirene Pegonitissa (-14 Oct 1077). The Alexeiad names "Andronikos, the Cæsar's eldest son" as the father of Empress Eirene[227]. Co-emperor 1067-1070. Commander of the imperial fleet in 1068, he fled from the battle scene at Manzikert in Aug 1071 and deliberately spread the rumour that the battle was lost, which eventually it was[228]. Protoproedros, Protobestarios. Psellus records that "Andronicus, the elder of the cæsar's sons, was given command of the imperial armies"[229]. Domestikos of the Orient 1073. He became a monk as ANTONIOS. The list of obituaries of Empress Eirene Dukas's family records the death "14 Oct, monk Antonios, father of the Empress"
