After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl "Cherie" Irene Oosterlee. Cherie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John; her three daughters, Sandra (Lindsay) Young of Calgary, Tina (Joe)Oosterlee-White of Lethbridge, and Debbie (John) Lantican of Medicine Hat; ten grandchildren, Colton, Alex, Kyle, Rayna, Abby, Zane, Jade, Ayesha, Jared and Justin; two brothers, Stan (Laura) Gowing and Gordon Gowing both of Calgary; one sister, Faye (Helene) Gowing of Creston, BC; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as the Oosterlee family. Cherie was predeceased by her parents, Lorne and Irene Gowing on May 20th, 1985; and one sister, Sandra Dale Gowing on June 18th, 1972. Cherie was born in 1950 in Turner Valley and was the oldest of five children. She married John in August of 1970 in Calgary, Alberta and lived in Rocky Mountain House where their first daughter was born. In 1974, Cherie and John moved to Medicine Hat, and added twomore daughters to their family. Many happy vacations were spent with the family camping (often in the rain) and skiing. In the early 1980's, Cherie began her college education at Medicine Hat College while running CJ Window Dressings part-time withJohn. She went on to work at Niblock & Company, and started her business, Key Computer Services. Following that, Cherie worked at Vander Sloot and MacPhail and for the last 10 years has been part of the family at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel &Crematorium. Cherie's greatest prides were not only her three girls, but her ten grandkids. Anyone who knew her knows of her love for them. Cherie was always there for them all - no matter what. After her first cancer diagnosis in 2004, Cherie found another family. She looked forward to paddling, training, racing and laughing with great friends she made on her beloved “Sister Power” dragonboat team. All that knew Cherie were struck by her unbridled optimism, kindness, warmth and generosity. She always had a smile and never seemed to have a negative thing to say. Cherie often mentioned that love conquers all and because we know this to be true, she will be with those who love her forever. She will always be deeply loved, forever in our hearts and dearly missed. Love You!
