Richard V. ‘Dick’ Lemley, a lifelong resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his home at the age of 82 years.
He was born on August 13, 1933 in Sedro-Woolley the son of Harold V. and Ethel M. (Guddall) Lemley.
Dick attended schools in Sedro-Woolley and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the Class of 1951. On June 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, JoAnna Land in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
With JoAnna in tow, he then attended the University of Minnesota for their Mortuary Science Program, then Western Washington University in Bellingham, and finally the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, thereby attaining his Funeral Director/Embalmer Certification.
In 1955, he joined the family business, Lemley Mortuary, with his father Harold and brother Bob, serving the community in funeral service for 46 years, retiring in 2001.
Dick also served his community on the Sedro-Woolley City Council, the Board of Adjustment, the Civil Service Commission, and the Sedro-Woolley Housing Authority.
In his younger years he was an active member of the Sedro-Woolley Jaycees and since 1986 he has been an active member of the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club, helping with numerous work parties and projects over the years, and he was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient.
He was delegated as a “Soroptimister” for his involvement with helping the Soroptimist Club. Two years ago, Dick was honored as a recipient of the Sedro-Woolley High School Community Recognition Hall of Fame Award.
Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, JoAnna Lemley; daughter, Kathy Bodrock, of Spokane; sons: Rick (Debbie) Lemley, of Sedro-Woolley, and Randy (Marlene) Lemley, of Everett; nine grandchildren: Tara, Brady, Eric, Evan, Lauren, Kayla, Carissa, Jonathan and James; great- granddaughter, Ella; his brother, Robert (Judy) Lemley, of Sedro-Woolley; sister, LouAnn Davis, of Mount Vernon; sisters-in-law: Norma (Scott) Harrold, of Sudden Valley, Linda (Bill) Rimmer, of Mount Vernon, and Shirley Lemley, of La Conner; brothers-in-law: Harry (Corey) Land, of Port Orchard, and Malloy Rowland, of Birdsview; an aunt, Helen French, of Bellingham; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded by his parents, Harold & Ethel; brother-in-law, Denny Davis; and sister-in-law, Peggy Rowland.
Visitation will be available from 9AM to 5PM Wednesday, Thursday and Friday September 23rd thru the 25th at Lemley Chapel, with Funeral Services on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1:00PM at Lemley Chapel with Linda Haddon, Celebrant. Following the services, a reception will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center.
Inurnment will be at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery at a later date.
