Andrea Kathleen Shearer, age 77, went home to rest with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021. She passed at her home of more than 30 years, located in Kendall Valley.
Andrea was born June 29, 1944 in Fullerton, CA to parents George and Betty (Potvin) Ausburn. Andrea was one of three children. She was baptized at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Anaheim and confirmed at Saint Cornelius Church in Long Beach. Andrea continued this strong Catholic faith until the day she passed.
Andrea graduated from Western High School, the same high school her lifelong husband, Norman Shearer, graduated from. Following her marriage to Norman at Saint Hedwig Church in Los Alamitos, CA in 1965, Andrea gave birth to two children. Andrea was primarily a stay at home mom, a title she took great pride in as she loved being a mother. She continued to be a "mom" even when her children grew into adults.
In 1984, Andrea and her family moved to Washington. They settled first in Bellingham before finding their true, permanent home in the Kendall Valley. Andrea loved being surrounded by nature and all the trees in the valley. She took full advantage of the land by raising chickens, geese, cats, dogs, a goat, and even horses for many years. She loved gardening and took special pride in creating a "park-like setting" in her yard, building numerous large gardens which included many large rhododendrons.
Andrea also enjoyed collecting mice figurines, a hobby she started when Norman shipped off to Vietnam and she told him she wished she could be a mouse in his pocket. Her other hobbies included crocheting, sewing, canning, and baking. She used these talents to contribute to her church cookbook, and the centennial quilt that is still on display at St Peter's Catholic Church.
Andrea was a strong woman that was able to overcome a lot of hardships in regards to her health. From being born very premature, to having a couple back surgeries, and hip surgery, she always pushed herself as far as possible. She loved heating the family home with wood heat, insisting on helping with cutting, splitting, and stacking the wood. Even in her senior years, when her health began failing, she still insisted on helping with firewood prep and heat. She often commented that she loved the smell of fresh cut wood and the soothing heat of her fireplace.
She was a loving mother & wife and deeply cared about helping others when she was able.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Norman Shearer, mother Betty (Earl) Gates, father George (Jurahee) Ausburn, and parents-in-law Sylvia and Ambrose Sherman.
If you wish to express sympathy for the family and in lieu of flowers, please donate in Andreas name to Meals on Wheels, 315 Halleck Street, Bellingham, WA. 98225, a service that helped Andrea for many years.
A funeral mass will be at Saint Peters Catholic Church, Kendall on October 15th, at 1pm with final resting place by her husband's side at Saint Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
