Ralph Vander Zee, age 96, went home to Heaven on May 9, 2011.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 13, 3 pm at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Lynden; preceded by private family interment in Monumenta Cemetery officiated by Pastor Alvin Vander Griend.
Ralph was born in South Holland, Illinois on July 27, 1914. He married Jeanette Van Drunen on Sunday evening, December 11, 1938.
He is survived by his four children: Vernon (Ruth) Vander Zee of Miami, FL, Sheryl (John) De Jong of Reston, VA, Laureen (Floyd) Leo of Sheboygan, WI and Marcia (Les) Mulder of Lynden; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Jeanette Vander Zee (nee Van Drunen) and his 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Ralph was a successful farmer and at the age of 50 went to work for The Bible League. He served for many years as elder at Cottage Grove Christian Reformed Church as well as Peace Christian Reformed Church in South Holland, IL. After retiring he volunteered at The Bible League and when moving to Lynden he volunteered at The Paper Depot, Ebenezer Christian School, One to One Ministries, Gideons and Bethel Church. His gardening skills were admired by many.
