Averill Heidemann, 87, of New Ulm died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Fred Hinz officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier's Rest. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Averill is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Bill) Oachs of Mankato, Lynn (Bruce) Heuchert of New Ulm, Nancy Heidemann of North Mankato, Becky (Bob) Grussendorf of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; Terry (Shelly) Oachs of Colorado Springs, CO, Stacie Buccelli of New Prague, Jessica (TJ) Fletcher of Eagan, Michael (Melissa) Heuchert of Minneapolis, Brian (Sarah) Grussendorf of Lafayette, Kelly Grussendorf of New Ulm, Shannon (Luke) Hagen of Mitchell, SD; 11 great-grandchildren, Joe, Maxwell, and Katie Buccelli, Garret and Logan Oachs, Isabelle, Madeline, and Jackson Fletcher, Masen and Paxton Grussendorf, Grace Averill Hagen; and sister-in-law, Jan Carlson of Inner Grove Heights.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Bud" Heidemann on July 17, 2011; and brother, Rodney Hassing.
Averill Phyllis Hassing was born on June 21, 1927 to Louis and Dora (Becker) Hassing in Faribault. She attended Mankato High School and graduated in 1944. On December 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donald Heidemann in Mankato. The couple made their home in North Mankato. In 1966, they moved to New Ulm where Averill worked for Windings, 3M, and was self-employed with Stained Glass by Averill for 15 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, camping, and creating stained glass pieces.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm and the Brown County Extension.
