Vanderkindere states that the county of Avernas, to the west of Waremme, was the predecessor of the county of Looz, and suggests that it was one of the four original counties in Hesbaye[439]. A charter dated 946 (redated to after 956 by Vanderkindere) notes an exchange of property, including "villa Lens in comitatu Avernas temporibus Rodulphi comitis" held by "Goderamnus", between Trier Cathedral and Maastricht St Servatius[Mittelrheinisches Urkundenbuch 184, p. 246]. . The county of Looz is referred to in the charter of Balderic Bishop of Liège dated 1016 which records that the advocacy of the church was given to "fratri meo Gisleberto, comitisâ¦de Los"[Vanderkindere II, p. 131, quoting "Miræus III, 297". ]. --------------------------------------------------------------OTTO, son of --- . Otto and his wife are not shown in Europäische Stammtafeln[ES XVIII 56.]. From a chronological point of view, an additional generation between Rudolf (967) and Giselbert ([1044/46]) would not be surprising. Nevertheless the chronology is tight for a daughter of Albert I Comte de Namur & his wife Ermengardis (married in 990) to have been the mother of Baldric Bishop of Liège, unless the latter was installed as bishop in adolescence (not impossible but requiring Papal dispensation, of which no record has so far been found[.Compare the difficulties surrounding the appointment of Hugues, child of Héribert II Comte de Vermandois, as Archbishop of Rouen in 925. ] married LIUTGARDE de Namur, daughter of ALBERT [I] Comte de Namur & his wife Ermengardis of Lower Lotharingia [Carolingian]. The Gesta Abbatem Trudonensium names "Lutgarde filia Hermegardis Namurcensis comitissæ" as wife of "Ottonis comitis de Los"[Gestorum Abbatem Trudonensium Continuatio Tertia 1007, MGH SS X, p. 382.].
