The lack of clarity comes when trying to identify this Raymond within the pedigree of the Counts of Toulouse, with several possibilities being suggested (Raymond, son of Raymond Pons; Raymond, son of Raymond and grandson of Raymond Pons; or Raymond, son of Raymond, nephew of Raymond Pons), and further, how to number the Raymonds given the uncertainty over how many there were and what their pedigree was.
