Harley A. Janssen was born to Ollie and Mary Janssen on August 1, 1925,on a farm just west of Austinville. He attended Austinville School andAplington High School.
He had a great love for the Lord, his family and the land. He wasmarried to Julia Kuperus in 1950 and was blessed with three children,Mary Jo , Hollis and Harlyn. He served many terms as elder in theChristian Reformed Church and chaired two building projects at theAustinville church. He was also active in the community and particularlyenjoyed serving as a director for the Ackley State Bank for 26 years. Hefarmed all of his life; it was both his vocation and his hobby. Eventhis past fall he helped on the farm and enjoyed his daily trips out tothe farm and checking out the crops. occasionally he would break awayfrom the farm to do some travelling including an extended trip to theUkraine to work with farmers to improve crop production.
In addition to farming and church life he loved his family. Familygatherings meant lots of stories, good food, and laughter. Hisgrandchildren have many fond memories of times spent with grandpa. Hewas quick to greet everyone he met and always had time for conversation
