Chris Ridder, Jr., age 86 of Aplington, Iowa, was born August 25, 1919, the son of Christ and Jenna Conrads Ridder south of Aplington in Grundy County, Iowa. He received his education in a rural school near his home. Chris was united in marriage with Mildred Miller on December 27, 1940 in the parsonage of the First Reformed Church of Aplington. The couple farmed near Buck Grove and in 1952, moved to a farm northwest of Parkersburg. They retired from farming in November, 1982 and moved to Aplington. Chris was a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington. He enjoyed being outdoors in nature and going fishing in Minnesota with his family. He very much loved the time spent with his grandchildren. Chris died Sunday, August 28, 2005, at the Allen Memorial Hospital ER in Waterloo, Iowa of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Tina Ridder, Fannie Walters, Ella Dreesman, Jennie Boelman; three brothers, Henry, Philip and Herman Ridder and one sister in infancy. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Mildred Ridder; one son, Jim (Esther “Cookie”) Ridder, Aplington, Iowa and one daughter Jackie Limburg, Marshalltown, Iowa; three grandchildren, Robyn Lyn (Don) Ubben, Hemet, California; Jim J. (Jennifer) Ridder, Aplington, Iowa and Jeff (Amanda) Ridder, Aplington, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Nick and Kevy Ubben and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at the First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Randy Aalderks sang “Holy Ground” and “Until Then”. Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock of Ages”. Casketbearers were James Miller, Rick Miller, Paul Stubbe, Paul Jungling, Jim J. Ridder and Jeff R. Ridder. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
