LeRoy “Doc” Jacobs, 80, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born December 13, 1928, the son of P.A. Bill and Ella (Voigts) Jacobs in rural Butler County near Shell Rock, Iowa. LeRoy was baptised and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Vilmar. He received his education in the Norton’s Corner School.
LeRoy was united in marriage with Leona Stille on October 8, 1950, in St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Clarksville their entire married lives. LeRoy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville.
LeRoy first worked at Oliver Corporation in Charles City. Later he worked for Bantem-Koehring Cranes in Waverly before retiring after 38 years.
LeRoy was a member of Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited. He very much enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing. He liked to keep up on the progress of homes being built since the 2008 flood. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
LeRoy died Saturday, August 8, 2009, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Jacobs on September 30, 2007; his parents; one son, Gene Jacobs on May 19, 2003; grandson, Terry Jacobs, one brother, Earl Jacobs and one sister, Barbara Jacobs.
LeRoy is survived by one son, Bruce (Karen) Jacobs, Shell Rock, Iowa; one daughter, Diane (Jeff) Johnson, Parkersburg, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Jacobsen, Waterloo, Iowa; Zackery (Melissa) Jacobs, Clarksville, Iowa; Uriah Jacobs, Shell Rock, Iowa; Wyatt Jacobs, Mason City, Iowa; LeAnn (Ryan) Schipper, Aplington, Iowa; Arend (Amanda) Johnson, Aplington, Iowa and Ethan Johnson, Parkersburg, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Taya and Gavin Jacobs; Brayden Jacobs, Eli and Isaac Schipper and Desmond and Ella Johnson; one brother, Richard (Marian) Jacobs, Greene, Iowa; five sisters, Gladys Young, Waterloo, Iowa; Donna Spratt, Greene, Iowa; JoAnn (Leon) Berger, Horton, Iowa, Judy (Lemar) Chester, Clarksville, Iowa; and Janet Platte, Ankeny, Iowa and one sister-in-law, Angie Jacobs, Waverly, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at the St. John Lutheran Church with burial in the Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319) 278-4245, and one hour before services at the church.
