The congregation sang "Whatever God Ordains is Good," and the Immanuel school children sang, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." Pall bearers were her four sons, Louis, H.F., Ed and Joe, and her two son-in-laws, Henry Wagoner and Harmon Wagoner. Flower carriers were her four granddaughters, the Misses Florence Wagoner, Minnie Sunderman, Wilma Sunderman, and Leona Wagoner. A large host of friends had gathered at both the home and the church to pay their last tribute of respect to one they all loved. Louise Moenning, daughter of Gerhart and Ingle (Rolker) Moenning, was born Oct. 13, 1843, in Dudleytown, Jackson County, Indiana. She was baptized in infancy. At the age of three months her mother died. She was raised by her step-mother, whom she loved and obeyed, and only knew as a mother. On April 13, 1857, she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was married to Fred Sunderman on April 3, 1862. She was baptized, onfirmed, and married by the same pastor, Rev. Sauer, and in the same church in Dudleytown. In the Spring of 1865 they moved to Page County, Iowa. They were told by their parents that they should strive to get a church here and if not, they should return. So the new families of this faith held services at private homes - they would read their sermons and have prayers and singing. This was no hard matter for them, as all the older ones had been taught and trained to worship, from childhood in their fatherland. The first communion services were conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sunderman, by Rev. Londgraff from Atchison, Kansas. "Grandma" Sunderman was one of the last surviving charter members of Immanuel congregation, and was truly one of the pioneer mothers of Page County. She died at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 2 days.
Their marriage was blessed with nine children, three dying in infancy. The surviving children, who will miss their beloved Christian mother are: H F Sunderman, L J Sunderman, Ed Sunderman, Mrs. Martha Wagoner, Joe Sunderman, Mrs. Hannah Wagoner; also twenty-three grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She passed away April 10, 1931, at 10:20 p.m., from general debility.
